Volunteer litter picking

“TeSzedd!” (PickItUp) is one of the largest voluntary schemes in Hungary. Our colleagues were more than happy to participate in “spring-cleaning” the city.

Education

Our staff visited Eötvös Primary School in Százhalombatta during the Health Day of their Eötvös Week series of events where they held a lecture for pupils on the causes and consequences of global warming, which became a long and interactive conversation about what they can do to preserve their environment.

Drawing competition

Last year we launched a drawing competition whose central theme was the environment:
"What does environmental protection mean to you? Make a drawing or painting! What would you do to save our common future?"

We received approximately 400 works from more than 50 schools all over Hungary. The creators of the best works were rewarded with valuable gifts. Their drawings and paintings were used to make a calendar for the year 2015, printed on environmentally friendly paper, of course.

Researchers’ Night

In 2014, Researchers’ Night was held again across Hungary. We prepared a special program for the students of Alternative Secondary School of Economics in Budapest. We put together playful tests for them; they could also experience what it could be like to be a celebrity. We transformed one classroom into a filming location, and then we made video interviews with some brave volunteers who talked about what they think about protecting the environment.

Bike to work campaign

On 31 October, 2014, the autumn period of the “Bike to work!” campaign ended. Within its framework, our 9-people strong team tried to make bike riding more popular not only as a sport but also as an alternative and environment-friendly means of transport.
Over a period of 5 weeks, they all came to work at least 8 times, with the following results:
  • they cycled a total 1,487.6 km while coming to work and going home from work,
  • they burned a total 33,927 kcal,
  • they avoided a total 277 kg CO2 emissions,
  • and they saved patrol worth a total 45,819 HUF!

The campaign will continue in the spring of 2015, and we are sure to jump on the bandwagon again!

Christmas charity

As Christmas was approaching, we organised a collection for needy families. First, we visited Cserépváralja and gave durable foods, clothes and toys to large families living under difficult conditions and people living alone.
Next, we surprised the pupils and students of Kőbányai Complex Kindergarten and Primary School, Special Skills Development School with toys and clothes.
Dogs at Állat és Ember Alapítvány (Foundation for Humans and Animals) were happy when they received our soft, warm blankets and pillows, while we took clothes and cash donations to Dóri Ház (Dorothy House) in Pécs.
